film review

Modernity … looking the past to find answers?

Nowadays, we are living in a “fast world” where everything has to be done against the time, but have you ever asked yourself why the world works in that way? We can find the answer for that question looking in the past. Once, in my working experience a kid asked me why the world was so crazy. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the right answer for him, until I understand that everything that happens in the world is a consequence of the past. The film “modern times” is a wonderful way of seeing why the world is how it is, and also it is a very useful tool to answer the kid question, isn’t it? As a teacher you can notice that most of the time students are always looking for answers about different things such as identity, the beginning of everything, and so forth. That is why as a future educator I would like to clarify and show to my students where our reality comes from and why the world is how it is. This movie is a good chance to show them how important changes are through time, and also it is a nice way to make them reflect about how past human behavior could affect or influence the present world.

As I mentioned before this movie is a good chance to answer students doubts or questions, even though, we should be aware that everything in life has advantages and disadvantages. Speaking of the advantages about look for answers in the past, I can say that the movie show us a strong view of the reality and how life style had been changed by the time where industrialization was taking place in our world. For example, when our students have questions about identity, and we don’t know a right answer, we should show them through this movie, how people started to move to the cities looking for opportunities and a new identity which could bring them a social movement. However, all this process of expansion, industrialization and modernity brought a high cost for many people until now ending with a lost identity, even with a herd instinct of the humanity, where the main purpose is work with a forlorn hope of social movement. It is important to teach our students to reflect about all those previous facts and discover their own answer for the future and hoe they can change in a better way the world; after all, they are going to inherit it.

If I have to describe the disadvantages, I can say that to show our students all those strong facts it could be dangerous without support from teachers. They could misunderstand the possible message that you want to show them. For example, I noticed in the film life was better in jail than outside, how terrible it was? Poverty was a common issue by these times, but unfortunately, it is something that it hadn’t changed so much in the world. It could be chocking to them be aware about all those things, but I certainly believe that awareness is necessary to finally understand the real world and why it is how it is.

Finally, if we give our students the tool for reflect about their own questions we are going to develop a critical thinking, where they will be the protagonist of their own experiences and learning process. Having in mind that everything what happened in the past brings consequences, or it influence the present, we must be aware about it, and teach how it could affect our
future. The main idea is to correct all those mistakes that we have made as human kind. If we teach our students in a reflective way they could face and handle most of the problems in this fast and crazy word. As a future teacher I could say that my essential aim is change the student’s way of thinking, of course, in a good way showing them the importance of the past as a permanent consequence of the present and as a tool for the future.

modern times...

To be honest, I love this film because is one of the most clear representation of the industralization and also I admire to Chaplin a lot. By the time I watched this movie I realize how difficult life was in that moments and how industralization and modernity brought a high cost for many people. In this period people had a unique function and it was ... work, work and work, as machines without breaks or time to rest, life started to be more complicated and people was depending on factories which gave them a not stablish job that could finish at any moment. As I noticed in the film life was better in jail than outside, how terrible it was? Poverty was a common issue by this times, but unfortunately, it is something that it hadn`t changed so much in the world. Finally, I think that every change bring consequences the thing is we must face and handle it as well as we can and one thing that is crucial keep in mind is love, with this simple and wonderful feeling we should face everything, even modernity because nothing is stronger than love.

Elizabeth’s reign in the British History

I really enjoy this movie becasue it was an interesting way to understood what was happened in that times also it was a very descriptive film and full of details, wasn`t it ? Speaking of the consequences that Elizabeth and her reign had, I realize that her reign was the beggining of one important fact by that time, which was the expantion of a nation and culture because of the war victory. They started to expanding through the world leaving behind a lot of important facts which finished in the victory of a constant fight between England and Spain, but What were the conflicts that existed between England and Spain? Here took place the difference in beliefs that made a distance between both cultures, the region was the main controversial fact becasue of the protestant from England and the catholic from Spain, the last one wanted to dominate England, but if they follow the catholicism they could lost their freedom and also stayed under the eminent domain of Spain. Finally, she was an admirable woman who gave everything by their people, even she didn`t had kids because her kingdom and her people was the most important thing for her and that is why she was the most brave queen in that time.

"Natives and Immigrants"

First of all, I think this topic is very interesting if we talk about cultures origins, after all, if we see the origin of the world we are immigrants , aren`t we? Then, we live around people who comes from differents part of the world and also we are a mixture from natives and imigrants who are part of the formation of our culture.

Speaking of the complexity and diversity of the natives and immigrants in the formation of the United Kingdom the history could be different but the sistem used in this process is almost the same who Spain used in our country at the moment we were colonized. When I started to read this text, I remembered the movie “braveheart” because even if the author describe dates and important events the process of formation of the United Kingdom was all the time a real fight between native and imigrants. The thing is why is not posible to preserve the previous culture with a new one, or at least mix them. In my opinion, is very difficult to believe that through death and pain some land s were conquering.
